Understated Elegance at Vaucluse House Sydney

Kate & Joe

We had the pleasure of working with Kate and Joe to bring their wedding vision to life at the gorgeous Estate, Vaucluse House Sydney. With family, friends and celebration at the heart of their wedding, the styling was reflective of Kate and Joe - designed to encourage conversation, movement and flow for guests.

Set beneath the sandstone house and before rolling gardens, their intimate wedding came to life with elegant details; semi-circle florals growing from the ground at their ceremony followed by a champagne tower to toast the newlyweds!

We reached out to these two love birds to answer some of our questions about their experience on the day. If you are getting married, looking for a venue or simply want to understand what it is like from the couples perspective, have a read below!

What made you decide on hiring a wedding stylist?

This was actually an easy one for me, working in corporate events I understood the value stylists brought to the table. My challenge was who I would pick, but after chatting with Lara I knew Honey Lane were the ones for us. It just made the process so seamless and Alannah thought of bringing in the colour of my skirt from our save the dates into the overall colour palette which is something I personally wouldn’t have thought of, but we loved it! We also loved the whole process after your initial consult then seeing that come to life in a mood board then seeing that in real life at our venue – AMAZING!!! Totally worth it!!! Alannah and the team are the best in the business!

Favourite Memory from your wedding day?

Ohh that is a hard one, we got our video back recently and re-watching it there were so many little moments that I forgot. But I think I would have to say 1. Doing a first look with my dad. This was really special and super emotional. I had made dad wait, he hadn’t seen a picture of my dress or anything. I made him wait so doing this at the hotel was a really special moment. Second to that I would have to say it was our ceremony. The whole thing was so us, even though we had around 80 people watching us the only thing I recall about the entire ceremony was locking eyes with Joe and squeezing his hand for the whole thing. Our celebrant Gaz was also next level he went above and beyond which helped add to the vibe.

We are glad we….?

Kept true to us. I think it’s easy to get caught up in the emotion, excitement and pressure of a wedding but I think if you stick to what is important to you both you will end up with a day that screams you. Which is what we did, we kept our numbers down ended up with 80 or so and it was intimate and fun, we had sooo much fun we entered the ceremony with a dance tunnel and finished the same way. We had a gin bar as we both love gin. Just do you! I am also glad we picked the vendors we did, these people make or break your day and ours were so amazing!!! From our lovely stylist to the DJ, the photographer, our celebrant, through to the venue, our hotel and our cars everyone put in their absolute best and the end product was THE BEST DAY EVER!

The Venue - How did you know it was the one?

Funnily enough while we were waiting for our site inspection to start Joe and I had said not sure this is going to work it’s a bit small. But then we went in with an open mind and had the tour during the tour we saw where ceremony would be held along with wet weather plan (a must) and where we could have photos afterwards. Then we got to the reception venue and were told that all the doors open up and we could dance outdoors – we were sold!!! That is us! I always wanted a spot where our guests didn’t have to move from venue to venue so our venue ticked that box and the plus was for us we could have all our pics on site which was a game changer!
