Now it’s no secret at Honey Lane that we will not shy away from wedding and event locations outside of Sydney city. And weddings in the Southern Highlands are certainly one of our favs.
As Sydney based wedding planners and stylists, we find ourselves in our true natural habitat when working within rural properties in regional New South Wales, where we can throw on our work boots, lather ourselves in sun cream and insect repellent (yes, cue the thousands of flies!!), and get our hands really dirty.
Welcome to Bendooley Estate
Bendooley Estate is situated just outside the historic Southern Highlands village of Berrima and only a short 1 hour and 45 minutes scenic drive from Sydney’s CBD. The estate offers an idyllic, intimate setting for wedding ceremonies and receptions for all seasons. The magnificent surrounds of the Estate are rich in seasonal colour during autumn, spring and summer. And in winter, the cool-climate gardens provide a truly spectacular backdrop for romance.
There are so many special treasures about this property that we adore. We first worked at Bendooley Estate back in 2018 and now find ourselves here more and more. Berkelouw Book Barn
Ah, the infamous Book Barn nestled in the heart of the estate. This iconic space boasts cathedral ceilings exposed timber beams, a vast stone fireplace, huge iron pendant lights, a large dance floor, state of the art sound system, cocktail bar and thousands of old and new books, the barn is a unique and inspirational space. And if all of that isn’t enough, The Berkelouw Book Barn also features your very own private bridal parlour, an elegant lounge and dressing area with ensuite and bathroom amenities overlooking the vineyard – are you sold yet?
Built over 100 years ago and architecturally remodelled to become a multifunctional space, it operates as a restaurant, café, cellar door and bookshop by day and a well-equipped functioning wedding space by night.
The Lakeside Gardens and Pavilion
Before you and your guests get to comfortable inside the Berkelouw Book Barn, we want to welcome you to your one of many ceremony locations options; The Lakeside Gardens. The Estate’s classic gardens are truly enchanting with expansive lawns nestled within the surrounding woodland shrubs and exquisite lakeside views – this spot feels just like a movie!
In the event of inclement weather, the venue’s lovely stone custom built Lakeside Pavilion provides the perfect sheltered location to exchange your wedding vows. Or you might like to share some refreshing drinks and light canapés with your friends and family here instead.
The Homestead
Now, if you are one looking for the most spectacular photo opportunities – don’t worry because The Homestead has got you! Adjacent to the Lakeside Gardens stands, the Estate’s Georgian homestead built from convict-hewn stone. Draped in Virginia creeper, the veranda provides the most spectacular spot for your wedding photography.
The Stables
Ok now if we don’t already have your attention, I promise you The Stables will (quite literally) take your breath away! Set amongst rural paddocks with its very own exclusive entrance, huge iron fireplace, rustic chandeliers, exposed beams, cathedral ceiling, private bridal parlour and scenic setting. The Stables has been custom built for those seeking distinctive rural glamour, while one end of the space is made up of glass looking out to the surrounding rolling hills – this is the ultimate elegant country-style soirée.
And for your ceremony – The Stables have arranged this beautiful outdoor setting just for you! Including this oversized chandelier made with florists in mind, perfect for the statement ceremony display you have been asking for. Unlike anything you have seen before, The Stables is truly a unique and breathtaking space, perfect for any special occasion.
