On the day coordination Q&A with Georgia & Liam

I met with the beautiful Georgia via zoom a few months before her wedding in March. Georgia and Liam styled and planned their own wedding at the stunning Redleaf property in Wollombi in the Hunter Valley. They had sourced all suppliers and vendors themselves and then came to the realisation that who was going to manage the set up on the day and coordinate all the vendors?

This is when they engaged Honey Lane, this is a service that we offer our couples that involves our crew setting up the wedding styling elements and then managing the on the day coordination of the all the vendors to ensure all runs to plan on the day itself. It takes away that additional stress that the couples just don’t need to have to deal with on the lead up to the day.

Georgia and Liams wedding was an amazing day from beginning to end with a a stand out line up of amazing vendors that worked so cohesively together to ensure the day turned out to be as special as they had hoped for. With beautiful and engaging friends and family that were part of the day, it really made the entire celebration one of such warmth, fun and happiness.

We recently reached out to Georgia and Liam to ask them a few questions on their special day……

What made you decide on hiring an OTD coordinator for your wedding?

“We asked other people what their “number one” tip is for wedding planning and so many said “get an on the day co-ordinator!”. It is absolutely my number one top for others too. We had our wedding at a venue where we had to haul everything in (marquee, catering, alcohol, toilets, everything!) and we just couldn’t picture trying to get the whole venue ready at the same time as getting ourselves ready. And now having done it, there is no way we could of done it without Honey Lane.”

How beneficial was the on the day set up from Honey Lane?

“We cannot overstate how much easier and more fun it made the day! Even though we had planned the whole thing ourselves, because we didn’t do any of the set-up it meant that we actually felt like guests at our own wedding, which we loved! It made the days leading up to the wedding and the day of the wedding an absolute breeze. We can honestly say we were not stressed for a minute because we knew Heidi from Honey Lane had it covered. We got to wander down to the marquee to take a squiz at what all the brilliant girls were doing in between getting make-up, photos etc. and it was awesome to see it all come to life without having to lift a finger.”

Please talk us through your stand out performance of the evening?

“Oh, it’s got to be our first dance. Moulin Rouge featured heavily in a lot of the speeches because the groom has a real penchant for it and often, after a few drinks, breaks into song. So for our first dance, we did an all-out performance of Elephant Love Medley – it was just the best and really set the mood for the dancefloor.”

What was something that you are glad you did?

“Apart from hire Honey Lane you mean!? 😉

There are two things we are really glad we did. The first is probably that we didn’t seek other people’s opinions on things when we didn’t need them. Everyone will have a strong opinion on what your wedding should look like, but we just decided everything between ourselves and it made it really stress-free. The second is that we made the wedding “ours”. We did a performance as our first dance rather than a slow waltz, we got custom illustrated beers as a keepsake for everyone, we gave sneakers to all the girls for the dancefloor, and we dropped the cake in favour of our favourite ice-creams. All those little touches (which were often cheaper than the alternative) made the wedding feel like “our” wedding, and we had so many comments to that effect – people felt they were celebrating us as a couple.”

Was there anything that you might have done differently?

“It’s honestly hard to pick something. If anything went wrong on the day /night, we genuinely didn’t know about it. We just assume Heidi took care of it!

The only thing is probably that we didn’t hire Honey Lane to come back and do the pack-down, and we wish we did. It was pretty minimal, but it’s the absolute last thing you feel like doing in the days after when you’re on cloud nine.”

A favourite memory from the day?

God, so many. Top ones are probably:

(1)    “ Hanging with our bridal party while getting photos taken. Our photographer and videographer were so relaxed that it was just like laughing with friends the whole time (and candid photos for the win over posed photos every day of the week!)

 (2)     The speeches. They were ripper. We love to laugh at ourselves and there were plenty of killer one-liners in there.

 (3)     The dancefloor. It went OFF and we genuinely didn’t sit down from the moment it started. Highly recommend Jerome from Master Blaster who is an absolute mood-starter, and the timber flooring from Katalane. Can’t believe how well it held up!!”
