Relaxed Rural with a Contemporary Edge

Nathan & Brett

We had the absolute pleasure of working with Nathan and Brett throughout last year to bring their ultimate wedding of their dreams to life. The couple contacted us to style and co-ordinate their wedding at Burnham Grove. We have contacted the lovely couple to answer some of our burning questions! If you are getting married, looking for a venue or simply want to understand what it’s like from the couple’s perspective. Have a read below!

What made you decide on hiring a wedding stylist and coordinator for your wedding?

When we booked our wedding venue, they gave us a list of preferred suppliers. One of the categories was 'Stylist' which we hadn't actually considered. When we looked at the preferred suppliers that were recommended from the venue, although they were nice, they didn't really resonate with us. The styling didn't speak to us and it all felt a little 'same, same'. By the time we booked our celebrant, Zoe Sabados, she had recommended Honey Lane. After looking at the HL Instagram, we loved the vibe of their work and could really see them setting the scene for our wedding. After our initial consult, we were informed of their 'on the day coordination' option. They did not push this down our throat and really made us consider if this option was something we needed and wanted. We ended up going with this option and we are so glad we did.

The Venue - How did you know it was the one?

Our venue was the only venue we visited. We didn't have our heart set on any one venue prior to planning, and the day we visited Burnham Grove, we didn't even plan on venue shopping. We had a spare hour in our afternoon and decided to check it out. As local Camdenites, the idea of getting married in our local town appealed to us, if we found the right venue. As we toured the beautiful grounds, we could really see ourselves saying 'I Do' in this location. When trying to describe to our friends why we chose our venue having only visited one, it was really about our vision and if we could physically see ourselves getting married there. There were some aspects of the venue we had our concerns about, like the early finish and one particular wall in the marquee, but being able to visualise ourselves there was the deciding factor. It also helped it was eight minutes from our house, door-to-door.

Favourite Memory from your wedding day

The energy that was surrounding our ceremony in the moments leading up to it, before we got to see each other, was something we will both never forget. While we were both so close to one another physically (only metres way), we had no idea what each other were wearing and also had no idea what our ceremony space was going to look like. The energy was electric and while we were both more nervous than we'd ever been, we just couldn't wait to get in there and get started. I still remember walking into 'The Secret Garden' and being blown away by the styling and seeing all our loved ones in one place. Brett recalls how much he loved seeing me down the end of the aisle (I promise these were his words). It all came together in a way better than we could have imagined. It was an outer body experience we will never forget.

We are glad we.... Did not postpone our wedding due to COVID (The MF). It was tempting on a number of occasions in the months leading up to our day. In the end, we didn't have to make any compromises, and everything went exactly to plan! There were a few times when we were ready to pull the pin just for the security of knowing the day was going to be exactly as we wanted. Our vendors used their expertise to reassure us that they believed it would all be ok and that our day would go ahead as planned - we are very glad we trusted the voice of the experts in the room and kept our original date. Not only did it go to plan, it was the best day if our lives.

A little lol - A funny moment you will always remember

Brett - Brett's funny moment is being held hostage in the wedding vehicle while he needed to go to the bathroom but the venue coordinator not allowing him to go. In the end, Brett said a few choice words to her before rushing off the bathroom before I came out of the homestead.

Nayth - I didn't really have any LOL moments - I was organised to a tee 🙂 I did find it funny that mud flicked up onto our bridesmaids and groomsmen while I was tearing around on the golf buggy. By this stage, the vows were over, we were married and I really couldn't give a toss. I was much more relaxed by this point.

Word of Advice - Anything you might like to share to soon to be brides and grooms?

Trust the experts. There were many times throughout the lead up to our day where we really didn't know what to do. Cancel, postpone, go ahead? Our vendors gave us lots of great advice. They do this EVERY DAY and had the best insights into what we should do. Their advice always ended up being spot on, and their guidance and gentle support made us feel so much more comfortable about all our decisions. They weren't pushy, but provided useful advice when we asked. Don't be scared to ask, straight out, all the questions you have or the things you're wondering.
